How much Barley Beef should I buy?
To give you an idea, a family of six (which includes three teenagers and one very active boy) eating some type of meat (hamburgers, roasts, steaks, etc.) 2-3 times a week will go through a whole cow in 12 months.
A side of beef (1/2 a cow) would be ample for a family of four for about a year. Our most common size is a quarter-beef.
How much room do I need in my freezer to hold all this Barley Beef?
A full cow takes up a 25 cubic inch freezer (full capacity of a stand up freezer). So, ½ a cow would take up half of that freezer.
If you have a standard refrigerator with the freezer on top you can just about fit a 1/4 cow in there. To do this, you'll need to remove the ice-maker and all the contents - it gets cozy with a quarter cow!
How much does Locker Beef cost?
We charge $6.50/lb hanging weight. Hanging weight is the weight of the animal after it has been drained and all extremities and organs removed. The meat you get will be about 65-68% of the hanging weight.

The hanging weight of a full steer ranges from about 850 - 950 lbs. So if you ordered 1/2 beef the hanging weight would be about 425 - 475 x $6.50/lbs = total cost between $2,800- $3,100
When can I expect my Barley Beef?
For ground beef you will usually have your beef within 1-2 weeks.
For locker beef, it depends on the length of our waiting list, and butcher and beef availability. The average wait time for locker beef is 1-2 months. Call or email us for specific wait times.
What cuts can I expect in a Sampler Pack?
The sampler pack has a preset weight with a variety of cuts, the flat price for a sampler pack is $225.00.
Sample Packs are a ~25 lb. box containing an assortment of cuts. We try and get a primal steak (Rib steak, NY, tenderloin), and a mixture of roasts, ground beef and other cuts.
What cuts can I expect in my Locker Beef?
When you order 1/4 or 1/2 cow you get the same cuts as a full cow, but a quarter or half of the amount. You'll get:

Can I submit my own cutting instructions instead of the cuts you offer?
Absolutely! It will be a little longer of a wait, but we are happy to put you in touch with our butcher to make sure the steer is cut how you want it!

Can I get bones or organ meat?
Yes! We sell both knuckle bones and marrow bones for $1/lb in 10lb bags. We sell heart, liver and tongue for $4.50/lb.
